“TRON: Uprising” Trailer

TRON fans eager to return to The Grid in TRON 3 are going to have to be patient, seeing how production on that threequel (still not a certainty) isn’t expected to begin until 2014 at the earliest. In the meantime, you’ll be able to take a trip back to the land of light-cycles and identity discs with the upcoming animated TV series, TRON: Uprising.

Uprising bridges the narrative gap between the original TRON movie and TRON: Legacy. Based on early footage from the show (which looks quite gorgeous), it imitates the aesthetic of the latter film, rather than the 1980s original – or, say, takes a hybrid approach, like that in Daft Punk’s “Derezzed” music video.

The TRON TV spinoff follows Beck (voice of Elijah Wood), an idealistic, young program who leads a revolution against the imperialistic reign of Clu (Fred Tatasciore, reprising his role from the TRON: Evolution video game). Serving as Beck’s mentor is the legendary Tron (Bruce Boxleitner), who helps the would-be revolutionary become a wise and capable player in the struggle to restore freedom to the people (programs?) of The Grid.

Rounding out the voice cast for TRON: Uprising are fan-faves like Paul Reubens and Lance Henricksen (Aliens), along with Mandy Moore, Emmauelle Chriqui, Reginald VelJohnson and Nathan Corddry, among others.

TRON: Uprising begins airing on Disney XD next month on June 7th, 2012, following the premiere of a half-hour “prelude” titled Tron: Uprising – Beck’s Beginning on the Disney Channel on May 18th.

Kate Mara Joins Film “Fighting Jacob”

Jamie Bell and Kate Mara (American Horror Story) have been tapped to star in the romantic comedy Fighting Jacob. Variety reports that Bell will play, “Jacob ‘The Manic Maniac’ Rosenthal, an up-and-coming boxer whose extreme OCD is the key to his success in the ring.” Bell suffers a devastating breakup with Mara’s character, after which he must reevaluate his life and find a medium between his happiness and success as a fighter. Justin Lader wrote the script, and Charlie McDowell (Bye Bye Benjamin) will direct.

Bell is currently filming the promising thriller Snow Piercer with director Bong Joon-ho, while Mara is busy shooting David Fincher’s Netflix series House of Cards with Kevin Spacey. Mara’s sister, Rooney, nabbed an Oscar nomination for her work with Fincher in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Production on Fighting Jacob is slated to begin this summer in Los Angeles.

Kate Mara Says Kissing Dylan McDermott on American Horror Story Was Just Like Screaming

With Season 1 of American Horror Story safely behind us, we’re looking forward to new houses, new haunts, and of course, new characters. But we’ll always have a special place in our hearts for Murder House and all the tormented spirits trapped inside, including Hayden McClaine, played by the lovely Kate Mara.

According to Kate, who we caught up with last night at the New York City launch party for Salvatore Ferragamo’s new fragrance Signorina, she would love for Hayden to reappear in Season 2.

“I would love to [come back]. I’m doing another show so it would depend on whether or not we could work out both schedules, but I would love nothing more than to come back,” she said.

Could those steamy scenes with co-star Dylan McDermott have something to do with her eagerness to return? Not so much.

“Honestly, kissing someone on a TV show is the same as having to scream at someone on a TV show,” she told us. “It’s just as weird and awkward.”

Sorry to break it to you, Kate, but we’re sensing lots more awkward on-set moments in your future. The 29-year-old actress just nabbed a principal role in the upcoming political thriller House of Cards, which is scheduled to premiere on Netflix later this year.

“Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright play a married couple, and he’s a congressman and he’s trying to become the president,” she dished. “And I play a young reporter who kind of strikes a deal with him.”

We told Kate we’d be willing to switch roles and let her interview us for practice, but she was apparently taking notes the whole time.

“I’m learning a lot from you right this second!” she shouted, before disappearing into the crowd.
